Manuel Kastin

Manuel Mike Kastin, of Madison, Ill., passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. on August 8, 2003 at the age of 82.  He had been in failing health for several months.
Mike was born in Madison on January 16, 1921, the son of Harry and Rose (Friar) Kastin.  He was united in marriage on December 20, 1969 at the First Presbyterian Church in East St. Louis to Eleanor Pyatt.
He retired in 1987 after serving as Accountant and Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan and served on the Board of Directors of the Madison County Mutual Insurance Co. and on the Board of Directors of Magna Bank, formerly First National Bank in Madison, now Union Planters Bank.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, the Korean Conflict and was commander of Amvets Post 204 of Madison.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Pyatt of Madison; two nephews, Craig Swartz and wife Cheryl of St. Louis, Mo. and Frank Dry and wife Shirley of Springfield; one niece, Marilyn Stringer and husband Steve of Ullin  and one sister, Esther Swartz of Creve Couer, Mo.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jennie Bornstein.
Visitation was held at the Pletcher Funeral Home at 627 St. Louis St. in Edwardsville on Monday, August 11 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services were held at the Galum Presbyterian Cemetery on Tuesday, August 12 at 11 a.m. in Pinckneyville.
Memorials may be made to the Barnes Jewish Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
